About this trip

We will have conversations with local residents and communities throughout Ireland, north and south, with a particular focus on the history of the civil rights movement in the north, the Troubles, the Good Friday Agreement, and the long path to peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland.

We will learn about Irish history, identity, and culture in Dublin, hear from activists and community members in Derry, and engage with educators,  entrepreneurs, and faith leaders bridging divides in Belfast and beyond.

Our trip will start and end in Dublin (flights in and out of Dublin Airport DUB). We will stay in Dublin, Derry, and Belfast, in addition to visits to sites in the surrounding areas. Itinerary below is subject to change.

What can I Expect?

We engage with a variety of opportunities that prompt exploration, listening, learning, and connection. These include:

- Meeting with faith leaders, movement builders, nonviolence educators and others doing the work of peace and reconciliation. We also meet with public historians, artists, and community stakeholders.

- Visits to museums and historic sites that focus on crucial aspects of local history.

- Learning about local culture through art and cuisine.

- Sharing space and meals with locals from diverse communities.

Great time. Great people to travel with.

This was a fantastic, informative and transformative experience! I found DeShaun and Todd to be so helpful and knowledgeable, and the thoughtfulness Francis had to provide for our needs and keep us on schedule was so very helpful and needed. Food was amazing, content was great, and I loved all of the guests we talked to. It did feel a little rushed, especially in the museums, 2 hours did not feel like nearly enough time. I also would have appreciated some acknowledgement of how men and women might have different experiences on the the trip in addition to the acknowledgement of how people of different colors will have different experiences, especially on the day that we visited the mothers of gynecology monument. But overall, I think everything was really well done.

This was a very intense experience, but ReStory took great care of us as we processed and explored.

It was an incredibility eye-opening and transformational trip. Deeply grateful for the work of Telos to bring awareness about injustices in USA and Palestine. Highly recommended.

Excellent trip, as I've come to expect from Telos. I'm thrilled that Telos has created the Ireland, American South, and S. Africa tours to complement Israel/Palestin and kudos to Greg especially in curating the S. Africa trip. Fantastic local guides (Jenny, Thami) and local experts, especially Bongani Mamba, Lwando Xaso and Pastor Rene. Incredible food, especially at the Mandela home from his former chef, the incredible Yeoville Dinner Club and our final dinner. Excellent hotels and logistics support. Felt privileged to hear personal accounts from anti-apartheid leaders, including student leaders from the 70s, and close colleague of Desmond Tutu. While I was worn out by the end of the week, a well-balanced schedule of visits, presentations and multiple opportunities for debriefing. The only major drawback of the trip was we weren't able to visit the Apartheid Museum, Desmond Tutu Museum or Robbin Island. Though this wasn't Telos's fault, this was a big disappointment and our picture of apartheid and the anti-apartheid movement was substantially reduced. Overall, I would have preferred more focus on apartheid, the anti-apartheid struggle and cutting out some of the ancillary sessions (such as day 1 seeing animals and the fossil remains, the Annie Devilish and de Grouchy talks), although I did love the graffiti art walking tour and the penguins. Secondly, while I appreciated the Marharishi University and Kliptown Youth Program, wish we could have had more discussion of how S. Africa moves forward to tackle unemployment, HIV infection rates, income inequality. (admittedly I missed most of the evening discussion with local pastors, which I regret). We had a wonderful diverse group of travelers and I learned so much from people's stories and reactions to the trip during our meals and long bus rides. I wish this trip wasn't so expensive. I could be happy with less fancy hotels and meals.
